THE STORY SO FAR...

valuemakr s.r.o. is the idea of two friends having gained similar experiences from their previous employments, i.e. for consulting companies profits and margins take priority over the interests of clients. Idealistically, with only a little more flexibility and less stiffness in business behaviour and less aggressively optimising their own books, there ought to be the possibility to keep clients' interests in focus. Our prioritised concern is with our clients and how we can support them to gain a cutting edge and sustainable advantage over their competitors. We imagined that it should be feasible to let this very idealistic view of ours influence our reality and let this be our very USP.

Combined we have worked in diverse industries on three continents supporting numerous clients in various industry sectors such as BMW, Computer Science Corporation, DXC, E.ON, Heidelberg Cement, HP, OTTO, Panasonic,Telstra, and Uniper.

Furthermore, as a team we have extensive methodological expertise in project management, process optimisation, contract and vendor management, stakeholder management, and a high presentation standard to management board levels. In recent years, we have been working frequently on the highest executive level with board members and functional directors of the largest utility firms in Europe. Also, we have been focusing on operational topics and ensuring correct and successful implementation of projects of various complexity. By covering the full scope of development from strategy to implementation we are able to materialise our USP fully.

Dr. Andreas Riege - Managing Director

I was born and raised in Munich, Germany, and gained more than 20 years of international experience in Australia, SE Asia, China and Europe. Since 2014, I have been living in Prague.

I was awarded a Bachelor and Master of Business Administration (Diplom-Kaufmann Univ.) from the Friedrich-Alexander-University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, and received my Doctor of Philosophy from the Australian Centre in Strategic Management of the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia.

I have worked for over 20 years in diverse industry sectors, beginning my career at University as a doctorate researcher, before I started my industry career as a management consultant.

My main area of expertise lies in an in-depth understanding of financial methods and processes as well as IT strategy and operations. It is here, where I moved into a specialised interface position that has been in high demand over the past 10+ years.

In recent years, I have been working at the highest executive level with functional directors and board members of large utility and IT firms in England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Benelux, and managed budgets of over EUR 100 million.

Dipl.-Inf. Matthias Kleinschmidt - Managing Director

I have been a consultant throughout my whole career and can rely on 14+ years of experience. My career has taken me into several industries such as manufacturing, trade and utilities. The main focus of my activities is the management of complex projects, often international.

In 2006, I became acquainted with the commercial aspect of IT and what it means for a company to invest and maintain services and processes to guarantee an ideal utilisation of information technology. Specializing in IT and in particular IT Governance I learnt the top-down planning and bottom-up build processes necessary for the ideal support of business units throughout large companies.

After being responsible for a project management team within my first position, I switched companies and began developing an energy branch within a start-up consulting firm. The next step for me was going from one consulting firm to another until I decided to be my own boss and found a reliable partner in Andreas.

Programme or multi-project management, my activities were driven by delivering the best benefit for my clients, as of now having completed more than 18 projects in time, budget and scope/quality with budget responsibilities of up to 10 million EUR and with up to 25 project members.

  • Our team managed the Financial Planning, Controlling, Reporting, and Commercial topics of a 3-year Transformation programme for a UK-based utility company.
  • We supported the development of a Digital Transformation Strategy and the alignment of a new target operating structure and governance model for a large UK-based organisation.
  • Our client entrusted us with steering an IT Business Case of a > EUR 250 million Application and Infrastructure Sourcing Program for the largest German utility MNC.
  • We led a contract prolongation programme with the world’s largest provider of IT infrastructure services (contractual value of > EUR 500 million) for two large German utility firms.
  • Our employees managed several IT projects focusing on strategic sourcing, infrastructure, application and license optimisation for a European utility firm in Benelux, France, Italy, Spain.
  • valuemakr implemented four data centre consolidation projects with respect to market enrolments in the utilities market in various European countries.
  • Restructuring the European utilities market - valuemakr, again, was a reliable partner by managing de-merger projects allowing mergers to follow without creating monopolies.

I was part of a team managing the bid process for an international outsourcing deal. Dealing with different cultures and temperaments made the right communication strategy key to a successful project. I learnt a lot during this project by simply focusing on illustrating the need for a functional and targeted communication only and keeping "politics" out of it. It was a challenge to make all project members follow but it worked out. Ultimately the effort was appreciated by the client as key to success.

Personally I like challenges and it seems that I have a skill for firefighting in projects. In case of entering a project which has already begun it is necessary to find the correct standing amongst the starters and find acceptance as a leader. For me, key to leading is competence, communication, empathy, authenticity and honesty. After entering a project I always analyse the situation first and then play the cards. During my last project I had difficulties in adapting and learnt that project targets can be very political and not always what they seem...

My last project was intense - the team had to prepare a multi-vendor bid. It seemed to never end and I almost lost hope that we would find the right bid to solve our client's problem since he was seeking a valuable and reliable service. A six month bid turned into eleven months bid but we managed to have all our requirements met and to gain significant savings for our client who complimented us as providing an impeccable service.

One of my favourite assignments was the interim management or assistant to an executive manager which enabled me to look into strategic decision making. This opportunity allowed me to understand the full chain of decision making top-down i.e. the motives behind the decision, carrying the decision out into the organisation and observing how it was perceived by the employees. When the assignment came to an end I handed over to my successor and my analytical skills were valued highly.
